{"id":554,"date":"2008-04-26T03:03:28","date_gmt":"2008-04-26T03:03:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/127.0.0.1\/wordpress117\/?p=554"},"modified":"2012-08-18T18:31:34","modified_gmt":"2012-08-18T18:31:34","slug":"april-20-27-2008-as-days-of-remembrance-of-the-armenian-genocide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.hayary.org\/wph\/?p=554&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"April 20-27, 2008, as \u201cDays of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"title-center\">\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hayary.org\/img\/bazm\/24april.jpg\" alt=\"24 april\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/div>\n<p>PROCLAMATION<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sub-title1\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: small;\">by the<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"sub-title2\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><strong>Governor of the State of California<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Every April, we take time to commemorate the lives of those forever devastated by the Armenian Genocide.\u00a0 Between 1915 and 1923, more than one million Armenians were killed in the territory of the Ottoman Empire, and countless more lost everything they owned.\u00a0 Intellects and store owners, children and seniors, men and women, people from all walks of life were victims of these horrific acts.\u00a0 Often listed as the first genocide of the twentieth century, these events had a life-altering impact on many, and stimulated an Armenian Diaspora.<\/span><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">California has ensured that those lost and affected by this tragedy will not be forgotten.\u00a0 In 2006, I signed Assembly Bill 1210, authored by Assemblyman Lloyd Levine, to allow construction of a memorial for California&#8217;s survivors in Capitol Park.\u00a0 Additionally, in 2005, I signed Senate Bill 424, authored by Senator Chuck Poochigian, which designated in state law a specific time to observe the California Days of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide.\u00a0 <\/span><\/div>\n<p>I ask all Californians to take time this week to reflect on this tragedy and its consequences.\u00a0\u00a0 In joining our friends in the Armenian-American community in this observance, all of California helps remember the lives that were lost or changed by these fateful events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER<\/strong>, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim April 20-27, 2008, as &#8220;Days of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gov.ca.gov\/images\/assets\/seal_of_california.gif\" alt=\" \" width=\"112\" height=\"112\" align=\"left\" \/><strong>IN WITNESS WHEREOF,<\/strong> I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 7th day of April 2008.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 180px;\">ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER<br \/>\nGovernor of California<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ATTEST:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DEBRA BOWEN<br \/>\nSecretary of State<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PROCLAMATION by the Governor of the State of California Every April, we take time to commemorate the lives of those forever devastated by the Armenian Genocide.\u00a0 Between 1915 and 1923, more than one million Armenians were killed in the territory &hellip;
